Medical Group Management Association (MGMA)

Ron Holder was placed as the chief operating officer of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) in Englewood, Colorado. With a membership of over 40,000 medical practice administrators, executives, and leaders, the MGMA represents more than 12,500 organizations that deliver almost half of the health care in the United States. Its mission is to empower practices, providers, and patients to create meaningful change in health care, accomplished through four divisions – industry insights, business intelligence, association services, and governance services – that offer educational collateral and certifications; innovative ideas and networking events; benchmarking data and statistics; access to industry experts and thought leaders; and information and materials for making medical practices more successful and profitable. In this role, Ron is charged with instilling focus, process, and drive to outcomes across the entire organization; contributing to overall strategic business leadership; influencing overall internal business effectiveness and efficiency; and providing direct management of internal operations.

Ron comes to the MGMA from Baylor Scott & White Health, where he served as the vice president of operations for the Temple, Texas region. In this capacity, he had strategic, operational, and financial executive responsibility for the practices of 235 physicians and 85 advanced practice professionals, as well as that of the residents, fellows, and medical students of Baylor Scott & White across 47 practice sites; in addition, he served as the administrator for the cardiovascular service line for the Central Texas Division. While at Baylor Scott & White, Ron drove significant financial improvement and garnered system-wide awards for quality improvement efforts, while also improving patient and employee satisfaction, achieving recognition on the Gallup and Sirota employee engagement surveys as a “best practice.” Prior to his promotion to the vice president role, Ron served at Scott & White as the administrator of the Department of Surgery and the vice chair of finance and administration for the Department of Medicine.

Previously, Ron served as the executive director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at University of Louisville School of Medicine and in progressively responsible roles at University of Kentucky College of Medicine in total quality management and department administration. Ron is originally from Kentucky and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He is a member of a number of professional organizations, and previously served on the MGMA board for a number of years.
