Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII)

Paul Hakenkamp was placed as the chief operating officer of Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) in La Vista, Nebraska, a 501(c)3 non-profit health information exchange organization that joins healthcare providers, payers, and the State of Nebraska. Designated as the statewide integrator by the governor, NeHII works with the eHealth Council and the state HIT coordinator to facilitate Health Information Exchange initiatives throughout the state in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. During the course of its existence, NeHII has connected more than 3.5 million patients, providers, and institutions; connected 70% of acute care in Nebraska; and provisioned access and provided training to over 10,000 clinicians. NeHII is certified as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry and as a Qualified Entity, and is the first HIE in the nation to pursue NCQA certification and achieve HEDIS measure certification. In his role, Paul will oversee the day-to-day operational functions of NeHII, with accountability for business strategy, project implementation, network development, program integrity, marketing, and the assessment of operating and business policies.

Paul comes to NeHII from OrthoNebraska, where he served as director of business performance and chief information security officer. In this capacity, he developed and implemented an annual leadership planning methodology; proposed, staffed, and developed an approach and methodology for performance improvement; implemented a cyber security program; and spearheaded a multi-million-dollar technology modernization encompassing electronic medical records, virtualization, cloud technology, and the supporting infrastructure.

Previously, Paul served as director of information technology and security officer for Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, Nebraska, and as director of information technology and manager of the project management office for Nebraska Medicine; he also spent seven years in the Air Force ROTC. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in management and information systems from the University of Nebraska and is a certified Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute.
